Former building for livestock and cider house, now barn and stable; 1723 (datestone), altered early C19; irregular brick bond, partly Flemish; tiled roof. Two-storey stable near house, barn beyond. Bullnose plinth, clasping corner pilaster buttresses and plain brick string course, running round pilasters to whole building. Gable facing house: former doorway in centre, with plain brick buttresses each side, elliptical brick arch over with stone keystone and date: now 3-light casement window. To left 2-light shuttered window, flat head to opening, elliptical brick arch over. To right taller 2-light window, similar head, left light bricked up, right glazed. First floor blind opening centre, large single- pane windows each side, all with elliptical brick arches. Right return slit air vents to both levels throughout: boarded door on left, flat head, no lintel. To right taller boarded door, segmental brick arch over timber lintel. Elliptical brick arch to blocked opening on right; above boarded door to loft, stone sill. To right parapet gable breaks roof on this side only: eaves same level each side. Double boarded doors to threshing floor in centre of section to right, left door in 2 halves; weatherboarding over to eaves. Part of elliptical head of blocked opening cut by door on right: at right end boarded door with elliptical brick arch. Left return originally divided into 4 equal parts by plain pilaster buttresses, one lost when barn doors inserted. Lean-to against left side not of special interest. Interior: 3 heavy ceiling beams to stable, some racks survive. Stairs to loft over inserted: loft walls plastered, divided into 2 by stud partition. Loft 3 bays, queen-strut roof trusses with slight, additional member from strut to tie-beam parallel to principal: 2 pairs purlins, plank ridge, windbraces rise from wallplate. Barn stone-paved threshing floor, low brick walls each side, since removed. Bays to right brick paved. Air-vents splayed on inside with cambered brick arches over: blocking for removed floor beams visible full length in both side walls; beams removed when barn formed. Beams for present loft floor different positions. Five-bay roof, trusses as first part. Probably originally building for horses or cattle, with cider house on end, former converted to barn in late C18 or early Cl9. Similar to buildings at Taynton House (q.v.). Forms group with house and further barn (q.v.).
