House. C16, altered and extended mid-C19 and mid-C20. Timber-framed, rendered infill on sandstone and brick base, brick replacement walling and additions, plain tiled roofs with multi-gabled roofline, barge- boards with moulded finials, and three groups of star-shaped brick ridge stacks. Central range of four framed bays, west end bay being narrower chimney bay, with single bay cross-wing at west gable end of unusual length, and two-bay cross-wing at east gable end, possibly of earlier date and with a rebuilt east side elevation and south gable end; during mid-C19 the central range of the north elevation was doubled in width and a new multi-gabled entrance elevation added, infilling the space between the cross-wings. Two storeys and cellar. Framing: retained in south elevation, mainly three panels from sill to wall-plate, short straight braces in upper corners and collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts in cross-wing gable ends; north elevation of east cross- wing has large swept braces in lower corners. South elevation: gabled roofline, three large gables and gabled dormer, over chimney bay added in C19; ground floor has two square bay windows with lean-to tiled roofs and paired 4-pane sashes, one cross-casement and two 2-light casements, five gables and gabled dormer all have 2-light casements; entrance beneath fourth gable from left, has a gabled canopy on shaped brackets, a half- glazed door and, in the gable is a datestone marked "1537" with a Sun Assurance fire insurance mark beneath. North entrance elevation: central range is brick with a skin of decorative timber-framing and has a large central gabled wing with a very big oriel stair window with tiled weather- ing; each side of this wing are pairs of small gables, and on the left side is a large rectangular stair light and a ground and first floor 2-light case- ment; on the right side is a ground floor cross-casement, two first floor 2-light casements and a lean-to glazed porch with central gable, and, . within, a planked and battened door with a Tudor-arched head. The cross- wing gable ends each side of this range, have first floor oriel windows on shaped brackets. Interior: much altered but contains fine Victorian woodwork.
