8/299 Broomhouse Farmhouse -

II

Estate farmhouse. Circa 1840. Rendered ; slate roof, gabled at ends ; projecting end stacks with set-offs to main block and wing. Gothic. Plan: Single depth main range, 2 rooms wide with a central porch, rear service wing forms an overall T plan. Exterior: Modest Gothic details. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central projecting 2 storey porch, the first floor of the porch oversailing the ground floor; segmental arched outer doorway, 3-light window with stepped lights to the porch room. Set of chamfered mullioned casement windows, the ground floor windows with high transomes. The right return has a later gabled porch and entrance into the service wings similar fenestration. Interior: Not inspected. Very intact externally and an unusual example of Gothic detailing on a farmhouse of this date. An almost identical farmhouse, Newhouse Mamhead Parish, suggests that both buildings were an estate design of the Mamhead Estate.
