Details

BRADNINCH SS 90 SE 7/5 Combe Farmhouse and adjacent - farmbuildings to rear - II Farmhouse, stable and barn. C17 house with later alterations and additions, the farmbuildings C19. Cob and stone mix, with some brick, plastered, the house with gabled-end slate roof, the farmbuilding range under hipped pantiled roof. House formerly a 3-room, through-passage plan, with lower-end cross wing (to right-hand end). 2 external rear lateral stacks heat Hall and lower-end; stacks at junction of cross wing with main range, and another towards left-hand end of main range, emerging from front face of roof : all with brick shafts. 2 storeys throughout. Front: 4-window range, all casement windows, C19, of 3 lights, some having lost their glazing bars. 2 doorways, the right-hand one giving into former passage. In the angle formed by the front cross wing and the main range is a newel-stair turret under a slated pentice roof, with small 2-light windows. 2 C20 2-light casement windows to front of wing; C20 windows to right-hand end. Rear: very large service-end external lateral stack, 2 set-offs, and separately gabled; Hall stack with 2 set-offs; a single and 2-light window above a C20 lean- to. Farmbuilding immediately to rear, now a stable, formerly a linhay, with late- C19 openings. Interior: considerably altered, but retaining chamfered, stopped beams, and an unadorned fireplace. Roof not inspected, but no principals are visible in upper rooms.
