Terrace of 12 houses, in 6 pairs. Early C19. Flemish bond gault
brick, slate roofs mansarded; double pile plan. All 4 storeys
with attics Nos 17-31 2 bays, Nos 33-39 3 bays, stepped up hill
in pairs, each pair slightly stepped back from next. Nos 17-31
have one basement 16-pane, one ground - and a first floor 12-
pane, and 2 second floor smaller 12-pane sash windows with
glazing bars, all under flat rubbed brick arches. Nos 33-39 have
2 bay basements, 3 bays above, all sashes with glazing bars.
External stairs to each door, gault checks, Portland stone
treads, cast-iron rails with spear tops. Each has 6 panel door,
4 upper panels raised and fielded with semi-circular fanlights
with cast-iron glazing bars under 2 concentric semi-circular
arches. Some painted rubbed brick arches. Some fanlight glazing
bars missing, Nos 17-23 only intact. Coped parapets with lower
string course, single dormers now mostly with replacement
casements, originally sashes with glazing bars, surviving to No
17 only. Large stacks on each party wall division. No 39 alone
has surving front garden railings. Rear has areas, some with
single French doors, sashes with glazing bars above. Interiors:
Reeded cornices, 6 panel raised and fielded doors, stairs off
axis and top lit, stick balusters, turned newels, stained rails.
Built in pairs, No 25 said to be 1816, No 37 1810.
