WEST STREET 1. 5128 (West Side) Nos 42 and 43 (W I Palmer Memorial Hall) SU 7173 12/355 24.10.74. 2. Dated 1887. Brick and terracotta. 3 storeys. 3 bays. Centre recessed with large 4 light windows with terracotta fluted mullions and moulded transom. Right hand bay projects with similar but 2-light windows with terracotta decorative semi-circular panels above. Left hand bay canted; similar windows with similar panels over and elaborate terracotta Ronunesque-type doorway of 2 orders and flanking portico with decorative columns supporting arcaded pediment and lintel inscribed "AD WEST STREET HALL 1887", Pediment breaks into 1st floor window. Decorative panels over ground floor with "W I Palmer Memorial Hall" carved on them. Continuous moulded cornices at all levels. Tiled roof in form of short spire over left hand bay. Brick parapet. Chimney with cornice. Large plate glass shop front to right.
