Large town house, now offices. C16 or earlier, extensively re-built late
C18, extended mid C19, altered late C20. Brick, formerly tuck-pointed, of
which traces remain; hipped slate roof. Central staircase plan with flanking
extensions. 2 storeys, cellar and attics. Flanking chimneys and one
behind-parapet to left of centre; one at rear. Small central dormer with
flat roof, behind pediment. Painted plinth, string at first floor level,
moulded and bracketed wooden cornice. Sash windows with glazing bars and
gauged brick heads. 7 bay symmetrical front, including outer and lower
extensions of one bay, and one storey extension to right of right hand
extension, with C20 door and semi-circular radiating and wreathed fanlight.
Central, pedimented projection with cornice at slightly higher level, a
circular window with wavy pattern bars in tympanum; a semi-circular first
floor window with radiating glazing and small arched opening light; Keystone
and stone cill on console brackets. Below this, a 6-panelled central
door with rectangular 'gothic' fanlight in deep reveal with architrave and
deep moulded doorhead carried round reveal; in bold Doric doorcase of 2
columns, slightly engaged, entablature and pediment. The door flanked by
2 ground floor windows, all in central bay. Interior:- entrance hall with
C20 doors in moulded, eared, architrave frames, with leaf enrichment.
Stone fireplace with large, curved and fluted brackets, supporting a dentilled
and moulded over mantel. Hall leads to staircase through a square panelled
opening, flanked by 2 engaged columns on moulded bases, with guttae and
triglyph frieze of the Doric order. The open well staircase has stick balusters
moulded and wreathed handrail, moulded wall string and tread ends, returning
the whole width under the stair soffite. A semi-circular headed landing
window with radiating glazing bars. Most windows to the principal rooms
