EAST KNOYLE A303 ST 83 SE (north side) 8/5 Milestone about 500 metres east of Willoughby Hedge GV II Milestone. Probably late C18. Limestone pillar with incised lettering to front: XCVI / Miles from / LONDON / XVIII / from Amesbury. This section of road between Amesbury and Willoughby Hedge turnpiked 1760-62. (VCH, Wiltshire, Vol 4, 1959)
