CEMETERY ROAD(West Side)Northern chapel at Ilkley cemetery

GII Municipal cemetery chapel disused at time of survey.C1880.Coursed sandstone with gritstone dressings,plain and shaped green slate roof.One storey,three by one bays with gable entrance loggia on rightof square bell-tower;north vestible;small west apse.Gothic Revival style with Romanesque loggia.Loggia has trabeated openings divided by red sandstone columns with foliated capitals;quoined,pointed arched doorway within;hipped roof abuts tower.Tower:pointed arched sill and dripstone;quoined front and side gables to ashlar roof from which rises the circular base of an hexagonal spire raised on colonnade.Chapel:cinquefoil gable window;left return has offset buttresses between cusped and foiled two light windows under pointed arches and hoodmoulds.North vestibule with shouldered doorhead and squareheaded windows;stack rises from main eaves above.Semi circular apse lit by three cusped lancets.Mainroof has shaped kneelers ashlar gabled copings,terracotta ridge tiles and apex crosses.Interior not inspected.Non-conformist chapel Of mirrored flair.
