PONTEFRACT WAKEFIELD ROAD SE 42 SW (north-west side) 2/63 5.11.68 Kings Croft II

Farmhouse, now hotel. Probably early C19. Ashlar sandstone, Welsh slate roof. Double-depth plan, 2 storeys and loft, 1:1:1 bays. Central 6-panel door below fanlight with radial glazing bars in round-arched surround with canopy supported on elongated consoles. Above, sash window with glazing bars. Outer bays form projections of semi-circular plan, on each floor with a sash window with glazing bars flanked by 8-pane sash windows, all in flush surrounds with projecting sills. Cornice with blocking. Tall end stacks. Rear and left return mainly obscured by C20 extensions which are not of special interest, with a round-headed window in left gable. Right return: part-glazed door in surround with small canopy door in surround with small canopy on brackets to its right; canted bay window with fenestration pattern as front bow window and modillion cornice to pitched lead roof; above door, round-arched staircase sash window with 20 panes plus radial glazing at the top; round-arched window in gable. Interior: ground-floor front room to left has door of 6 reeded panels in architrave, panelled dado below chair rail and plaster wall panels with some ' indented corners, frieze of urns and tiny dentils and central ceiling decoration; to right, dog-leg turned-baluster staircase.
