ST COLUMB MAJOR FORE STREET (west side), SW 9063-9163 St Columb Major 17/225 No 48 (Barnecutts) - GV II

House and shop. Mid-late C19, with few later alterations. Painted brick front. Stone rubble sides. Slate roof with crested ridge tiles and gable ends. Plan: 2-room plan, with one room to front and one to rear. The shop at ground floor, in the front room. Exterior: 3 storeys, asymmetrical front. Ground floor has fine late C19 shop front, in cast iron, with 3 round arches with pilasters between, decorative cast iron spandrels and cornice; recessed round-arched doorway to right, the door with a fielded panel at the base and overlight. Fascia and cornice on consoles. At first floor there is a canted bay rising to second floor level; each storey has a C19 4- pane sash to front with plate-glass sash to right and left; hipped roof over. Pilasters through first and second floors rising to pinnacles with finials with swept necking and small balls. Small circular window at the apex of the gable. Interior: Not inspected.
