1/163 Rose Cottage


House. Circa mid C18. Shale rubble with dressed granite quoins and lintels, slate sills. Steep asbestos slate roof with brick chimneys over gable ends. Double depth plan with parlour left, kitchen, right, passage between leading to central rear stair between shallow rear service rooms. Two storey plus attic (lit by gable windows). Originally symmetrical 3 window north front but 1st floor middle window blocked. Central doorway with 6-panel door and open partly glazed gabled porch. Circa early C19 16-pane hornless sashes except 4- pane horned replacement to ground floor right. Interior has many original C18 features: panelled dado to right hand side of passage, pine muntin and plank partitions; 2-panel doors and dog-leg closed string stair with moulded handrail and column-turned balusters. The large fireplace in the kitchen has fringle cupboard and C19 cast iron Cornish range still in use. The interior of this C18 house is unusually complete and unaltered since the C18.
