House. Mainly C14-C17, extended in C18 and C19. Timber framed, roughcast rendered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Hall and 2 crosswings plan, facing NE. Left crosswing of 2 bays, C14, with underbuilt jetty, projecting forwards of the remainder. Middle range mainly rebuilt in C17, retaining a late C16 axial stack facing to right, and possibly other parts of the earlier open hall. Right crosswing of 2 bays, C15, with C17 stack to right of it, and C18 extension beyond. C19 extension to rear of central range, with external stack to right. Lean-to extension to left of it, forming a catslide with the main roof, with a truncated internal stack at left end. 2 storeys. Ground floor, one C20 casement and 2 early C19 sashes of 20 lights with crown glass. First floor, one early C19 sash of 16 lights, 3 early C19 sashes of 20 lights, with crown glass. C19 half-glazed door with marginal lights, doorcase with fluted jambs, shallow moulded canopy. The left crosswing is underbuilt with painted brick; its roof is lower than the remainder. Gablet at left end of main roof, and rear part of left crosswing re-roofed to align with the main block. Right crosswing re-roofed to align with main range. The left crosswing has jowled posts, curved tension bracing trenched outside heavy studding; plain joists of large section lodged on central binding beam, which is tenoned but not ledged in the storey posts; steeply cambered central tiebeam with 2 arched braces approx. 0.15 metre wide; crownpost roof, apparently complete in front bay, rebuilt to rear of central tiebeam, central crownpost missing. The right crosswing has jowled posts, chamfered with step stops, a cambered tiebeam originally for a crownpost roof, but rebuilt above it. Fireplaces of stack to right of it blocked. The middle range has a chamfered axial beam and plain joists of vertical section; large wood-burning hearth facing to right. RCHM 14. The moulded wallplates mentioned in the RCHM report not visible at time of survey, August 1986.
