House. Late C16, altered in C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. 3-bay range with gable end to street, with C19 stack at left side of rear bay. C19 one-bay extension to rear, with stack at left side, and small single-storey lean-to extension to rear right. The right side abuts on a vehicle way through to the rear, roofed at eaves height, listed with no. 10 (item 9/203 q.v.). 2 storeys. Early C19 2-storey splayed bay of sashes, originally of 12, 16 and 12 lights, with painted brick below the ground-floor windows. The lower sashes of the ground-floor windows have been altered each to one large pane, and the upper sash of the central first-floor window similarly; the remainder appear to be original early C19. C20 door in simple early C19 doorcase. The rear elevation has on the first floor one late C19 sash of 4 lights with semi-circular head, one other late C19 sash; and one more at half-floor level, lighting the stair. The right return (in the covered vehicle way) is partly flush-boarded to first-floor height, partly with a weatherboarded dado and plaster above; on the ground floor is one early C19 sash of 16 lights, and a doorway blocked to form a C20 casement. Some imitation framing attached to plaster above. The left wall of the front ground-floor room is faced with C20 brick in stretcher bond. Chamfered transverse beam, unstopped; in middle bay, chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops and plain joists of horizontal section; in rear bay, chamfered longitudinal beam, joggled and unstopped. Other joists plastered to the soffits; imitation joists exposed in rear bay. There may be an underbuilt jetty at the front. Over the first floor, chamfered transverse and axial beams, unstopped. No access to roof. C20 grate in front stack, blocked C19 hearth in rear stack. C18 battened doors. Little of the original frame is visible. RCHM 57.
