GV II Farmhouse, now house. C16 with later alterations including rear dairy; extended one
bay beyond upper end early C20 with later alterations. Granite rubble, rendered at
upper end, slate roofs, slate-hung ridge stack at former gable end to left, ridge
stack to lower end and rear lateral stack.
3 room and through passage plan with axial hall stack backing on to passage. Inner
room to left and probably chamber above heated by gable end stack. Single-storey
outshut along rear of hall and inner room, formerly dairy and probably of C17 date.
The lower end may been a shippon originally but now has a rear lateral stack, with
the lower end wall rebuilt early C20; at the same time a one-room plan extension was
added to the upper end. Also at this time a straight stair was placed to right in
the passage; at the rear of the lower end is a projection which may originally have
been a stair turret.
2 storeys, upper end has 3 windows, at first floor all C20 2-light casements under
eaves, ground floor has three 3-light and one small 2-light casement; lower roof line
to right, with gabled porch with granite 3-centred arched hollow chamfered doorway
with stable door, lower end to right has 2 C20 2-light casement at ground floor, row
of pigeonholes with slate perches under eaves to right; shippon end converted for
living accommodation early C20. Left end has 3-light C20 window and half-glazed
door, 6-light oriel under slate-hung gable end; right end has 6-light C20 granite
window at gound floor, upper level slate-hung with similar 5-light window and half-
hipped roof. Rear has small lean-to to left with C20 2-light granite window, wall
rebuilt in squared rubble with rear stack to left of further lean-to with pitched
roof and C20 single light; C20 single-storey addition conceals rear passage door, 2-
light C20 casement above; probably C17 dairy single-storey outshut to rear of upper
end with two 2-light and one single-light casement, rear of early C20 bay to right
rendered; 2 small roof-lights over main range.
Interior wide passage has rear door with cambered granite head, early C20 stair
inserted to right in passage; ledged door to left with granite lintel leading to
hall, with blocked fireplace with C19 mantel and oven to rear, framed ceiling with 2
cross beams, one chamfered, 5 axial beams; deep splayed reveals to windows and site
of former stair to rear right, keeping hole to left of door and C19 shutters
remaining to one window. 3 steps down to shippon end, completely remodelled C20.
Roof not accessible, 7 bays over hall and inner room, some early principal rafters
remaining. Forms a group with Warne's Kitchen (qv).
