Summer residence of The Abbots of Glastonbury, now farmhouse. C14 with C16 alterations, lesser C19 work. Coursed and squared rubble; some stucco, particularly to front elevation, freestone dressings including quoins and eavesband, slate roofs, that to West of front range hipped, coped verges on kneelers; ashlar stacks; that to right return corbelled out from first floor, the moulded cap renewed; that to rear projecting and particularly tall with iron banding and a moulded cap. L-plan, interior with former open hall; many Decorated features. Two storey, 1:1:3 bay frontage, 2, 3 and 4-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned windows, except that to left of first floor chamfered, iron casements with leaded lights; evidence of a blocked pointed-arch window to right of first floor, relieving arch; 2 further relieving arches indicating the position of former similar windows; two 2-stage buttresses to right between the windows and angle buttress to right return. Projecting 2 storey porch to second bay from left; front facing ogee gable with coping rising to apex with finial in the form of a much weathered stone figure in robes and mitre; postulated as Abbot Richard Whiting of Glastonbury. Narrow door opening to ground floor in a moulded dressed stone surround, plank door, strap hinges. Two-light stone-mullioned window to first floor, leaded lights. Wing at right-angles to rear with several fine large windows; inside elevation with 2 to first floor with pointed arches and head tracery, 2 lights; 2 flat-headed 2-light windows to ground floor, cusped lights; North end elevation in conforming style, taller window on first floor with a transom; adjacent a 2-stage buttress; West elevation with blocked painted-arch door opening on first floor. Rear elevation of main portion with 2 large blocked pointed-arch windows. Contiguous range of outbuildings to West of frontage predominantly C18/Cl9 though incorporating remains of medieval fabric; central obtuse-moulded and pointed stone door opening with Perpendicular mouldings to head and jambs, studded plant door; random rubble walling, double Roman tile roof, further section with pantiles, some dressed quoins; single storey, 2 storey section with pyramidal roof to left, 2 two-light windows; 2 storey section with 2 broad segmental-headed archways in dressed stone surrounds; hay loft door set over, plank door; 4 further door openings, plank doors, 3 to left with segmental heads. Further attached outbuildings at rear are not of special interest. Interior with great hall on first floor at rear, large fireplace with stone hood, roof with remains of crucks set in wall; further large fireplace to ground floor; fireplace with lintol with shields inset in quatrefoils; several pointed-arch door openings in stone surrounds; early C19 staircase; further lesser features.
