TISBURY HAM CROSS
ST 92 NE (south side) 5/226 Farmbuildings at Ham Cross Farm GV II Complete group of farmbuildings. Circa 1830 for the Wyndhams.
Dressed limestone, Welsh slate hipped roofs. Hexagonal-shaped
yard with house (q.v.) to south-west, 9-bay barn to north-east,
obtuse-angled stables and granary combination range to south-east,
obtuse-angled range of shelter sheds to north-west and central
pigsty. Sixteen-bay range of shelter sheds formerly open-fronted,
now blocked between wooden posts and with stable doors, south end
has stone former dairy with half-hipped roof, north end has loft
door. Large barn has central elliptical-headed cart entry on
north side with double doors, smaller elliptical-headed doorways
either side, south side has central cart entry flanked by lean-to
loose boxes with stable doors and lower elliptical-headed openings
either side, stone partition walls either side of centre bay, queen
post roof trusses. Stable and granary range to south east,
possibly originally also with cowsheds, has large elliptical-headed
cart entry to right, stable door either side and elliptical-headed
entry and four stable doors to left, external stone steps up to
granary with planked door and four open loft doorways, rear is
windowless, partitioned interior, barn to south end has king post
roof trusses. Central pigsty and granary, now feed store, has two
low elliptical arches and two low square openings on east side,
same on west side blocked, row of small square vents below eaves
inserted doorways on west side, interior formerly with upper floor,
6-bay queen post roof with dropped tie-beam.
A good, little altered group.
