Rookery Cottages) GV II Lodgings or service range, subsequently gatehouse, converted
to five cottages, now two. C16, subsequently re-roofed, stacks
inserted, refenestrated and converted to 5 dwellings in early
C19, reconverted to 2 and partly refenestrated late C20.
Coursed flint pebbles, plinth, stone quoins, brick infil on
north and south fronts, some cement rendered lintels on south
front, steeply pitched clay tile roof, boxed eaves on north
front, rendered stacks west gable end and centre right of
porch, east gable end stack rebuilt in brick mid-late C20.
Plan: long range facing south to Hangleton Manor Inn (qv),
central porch on south front, recess on north front; entrance
to The Cottage is in north-east corner, to Rookery Cottage via
porch on south front.
2 storeys, 5 bays: south front irregular fenestration, all C20
p.v.c. casements with p.v.c. leading, evidence of external
stack to left of porch, brick infill to right, central
one-and-a-half storey porch (originally higher), with quoins,
cement faced gable end, late C19 double panelled doors.
North front: 2-and 3-light cast-iron leaded casements,
evidence of early C19 blocked doorways to left and right of
centre, present entrance second bay left also an early C19
insertion, central segmental-headed opening onto recess about
half the depth of the property with blocked inner
segmental-headed opening.
Interior not inspected, probably contains features of
interest.
