Details
EASTON ON THE HILL CHURCH STREET TF0104 (West side) 11/42 Easton Hall and attached wall 23/05/67 (Formerly listed as Easton House) GV II Manor house. Late C17 partly rebuilt and remodelled early C19, possibly by J. Richardson of Stamford, and extended mid C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar facade and Collyweston slate roof. Irregular L-shape plan. 2 storeys with attic, and 3 storeys. Entrance front abutting Church Street is early C19, 3 storeys, 5-window range. Central pillared porch with parapet and part-glazed door. Centre bay breaks forward slightly with Jacobean style gable over. Tall 2-light stone mullion windows with hood moulds. Second-floor centre window in Gothick style, has 2-centred arch-head and cusping. Gabled roof behind parapet, with moulded cornice. Plain pilasters at corners terminate as tall square, gabled, pinnacles. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar end stacks with moulded cornices. Mid C19 single-storey extension to left has blank elevation and hipped roof. Elevation of rear wing, abuting The Lane, is an irregular 7-window range of C20 casements at first floor. Arch-head stair window to left. Garden front, of rear wing was also remodelled early C19. 7-window range of 2-light stone mullion windows; the transoms having been removed. The hood moulds form a continuous band linking the heads of the ground and first floor windows. 3 Jacobean style gables, to attic, are linked and flanked by openwork diamond parapets with cusping. 2-light stone mullion window to each gable. Central sundial with inscription "Wee shall". Elevation at right angles, to right, is the rear wall of the Entrance Front and is a 2-window range of 2-light stone million windows with a gable over. Gable end, to right, has large coat of arms of Cutler family. Garden wall attached to left of Entrance front has C18 square-head gatearch to far left. Interior: C17 main staircase with half landings rising to attic, has square panelled newels and twisted balusters. The half landing newels terminate as scrolls. Secondary stair is also C17 with turned balusters and newels similar to main stair. Said to have some early C19 plasterwork to first floor rooms.
