TA0830 PEARSON AVENUE 680-1/14/445 Gateway to Pearson Park 12/11/73 (Formerly Listed as: PEARSON PARK AVENUE Gateway to Pearson Park)

Gateway. 1860. Made by Young & Wood of Hull. Cast-iron. Classical Revival style. Main central arch flanked by single pedestrian entrances, the gates removed. Central archway has square piers with scrolled openwork panels, pedestal bases and Corinthian capitals. Pilasters on the inner side of the piers carry moulded round arch with keystone and decorated spandrels. Enriched entablature with cornice broken forward over piers. Pilasters on the outer sides of the piers have cartouches of the city arms above. On either side, 2 panelled square piers to the pedestrian entrances, with corner pilasters, plinths and cornices. Each has a dolphin foliate finial, formerly topped with a lamp.
