Large house, now divided into apartments. C18 with C19
additions. Red brick, peg-tiles and slates. Plan U-shaped. 2
and 3 storeys, attics and cellars.
Front W elevation: 3 bays, 2 storeys, parapet with stucco
band, gable ends of 2 hipped peg-tiled roofs behind, each with
large red brick inner stack. Single storey projecting C19
flat-roofed porch, similar to rest with C19 door, upper
glazing and lower panel. Doorway and windows have rubbed brick
voussoirs, all windows sashes, 4x4 panes. Secondary exterior
C19 stack adjacent to porch on S side.
S garden elevation: 2 units, major to W, similar to front with
large 3-cant bay window through both storeys, ground and first
floor windows sashes 4x4, 3x4, 4x4 panes, rest of unit has a
deep first floor balcony, c1900 with brick baulstrade. Below,
French window fully glazed 4x6 panes and glazed overlight 5x2
panes, each side, sash window 2x4 panes. First floor, 2-light
casement window with glazing bars, 4x6 panes, overlight, 4x1
panes. To E, lesser unit slightly set back, 2 bays, 2 storeys
and cellar, gabled, peg-tiled roof, central stack, windows
sashes 3x4 panes, casement to cellar.
N side elevation: front unit, one similar style to front,
hipped roof behind with 2 dormer window, stack towards rear,
behind ridge, 3 window range but irregular and walling showing
evidence of alteration. All windows sashes, four 3x4 panes,
one 4x4 with some old glass, one triple sash with segment
head, 1x4, 2x4, 1x4 panes. Rear unit, parallel to one seen on
S side but separate, similar but with hipped slate roof, two
3x4 paned sashes.
Rear, E elevation: on sloping ground. Gable ends of rear
units, 3 storey elevations. Single bay of front block between.
First floor doorway approached by steps. C20 door with
overlight, second floor 3x4 paned sash window. Rear units. S
wing, blank and with C20 extension partly obscuring, N wing,
has central exterior stack to S, shallow 3 storey lean-to
addition on S side. Ground floor, C20 door, 2 sash windows on
both first and second floors.
INTERIOR: considerably altered in C20 but central late C19
well stair has shaped handrail, turned balusters, Tuscan newel
posts and similar dado. First floor landing arcaded round
stair wall in Jacobean Ionic style. 2 doorways off, in
eclectic style have cornice hoods and gadrooned frieze,
fielded panel doors.
