Parish Church. Late C14 and C15, restored in 1878, when north chapel
built. Coursed and random rubble-stone walls with stone dressings.
Slate roofs with stone gable copings to nave and chancel. West Tower,
Nave, North chancel added, Chancel, South Porch. West Tower, 3 stages,
with set-back buttresses, with base, plinth and string mouldings.
Half-octagonal newel stair at south-east corner, projects above the
main parapet. West doorway has moulded jambs and 4-centred head, no
spandrel carving. 3-light mullion window, cusped and with panel
tracery. Label, unstopped. Bell-openings: 2-light, trefoil-cusped
with quatrefoil over. Label, unstopped. Crenellated parapet and
gargoyles. Nave, 3 bays, windows are 4-light mullions with trefoil
ogee heads. Y-tracery head to central supermullion, panel tracery
in the interstices. Labels with head-stops. Western window (south
side), completely renewed, c.198O. Chancel: two 2-light ogival
windows in a square head with returned labels. Priest's Door,
straight-chamfered jambs and pointed head, between the windows.
South Porch: stone gable-coping and clay tile roof. Pointed-arch
entrance with chamfered jambs, corbelled off. Tablet over doorway
with "Restored 1878". Inner plank door, studded with strap-hinges,
Cl9. North chapel window is a re-set Cl5 window, of same design as
nave windows. Interior: Cl5 tower arch has moulded jambs, responds
and capitals. Chancel-arch, Cl5, with panelled jambs and soffit and
coupled responds with capitals. 2 trefoil-headed niches, one either
side of the chancel-arch. Cl9 roof-construction with high tie-beams
carrying king-posts and splayed braces. Chancel-roof is barrel-
vaulted with a compartmented wooden ceiling, Cl9. Fittings: Font,
cylindrical bowl with enriched cornice and necking, medieval, stem
C2O. Communion Rails, with turned balusters and urn finials, mid C18.
Wall monument to George Dawbney of Gorwelt, died 1612, and Elisabeth
his wife, freestone panelled tablet with painted achievement-of-arms.
