(Formerly Listed as:
CUTTHORPE
The Dower House, Cutthorpe Hall) GV
II House. Mid C17, with mid C19 alterations, and some C20
remodelling. Coursed rubble Coal Measures Sandstone with
quoins, a chamfered low plinth in part, ashlar dressings,
coped gables with moulded kneelers, gable and ridge brick
stacks, and a stone slated roof. Lobby-entrance plan.
South-east elevation of 2 storeys and attics, 5 bays, the 3
bays to the south-west end less altered than the remaining 2
bays. The doorway, set against the ridge stack to the central
bay, is quoined, the surround having a complex double roll
moulding. There is a massive lintel, above which is a hood
mould with label stops. To the south-west are stacked, but
slightly staggered, 3-light chamfered mullioned windows with
drip moulds. Farther to the south-west are 2 enlarged
ground-floor chamfered mullioned windows, both of which show
evidence of C19 renewal, above which are two C19 glazing bar
sashes, 4 x 4 panes, within flush stone surrounds. There are 2
gabled dormers to the attic level, each with a 2-light
chamfered mullioned window beneath a drip mould. Between the 2
gables is a shallow parapet, with a stone spout emerging from
it. The 2 bays to the north-east end have plain single-light
openings except for a single wide 4-paned window. The rear
elevation has 2 gabled ranges extending north-westwards, the
shallower of which has a late C17 2-light mullioned window at
first floor level, and a C17 single-light window at
ground-floor level. Listing NGR: SK3449773003
