Loads House Farmhouse, attached
outbuildings and boundary walls II Farmhouse and attached ranges of outbuildings. Dated 1713,
with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Coursed squared
Coal Measures Sandstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, plain
gables, ashlar ridge and gable stacks, with moulded cornices
and semicircular chimney cappings to two stacks. Stone slated
roofs. L-plan house, with attached farm outbuildings beneath
continuous roof extending to the east and west sides of the
house. South elevation has three-bay house of two storeys,
with an added bay at the west end formed out of the attached
outbuilding. Central doorway with massive lintel and quoined
surround, and plain planked door beneath later canopy. To the
east, stacked 3-light flush mullioned windos with casement
frames. Further to the east, another stacked pair of 3-light
mullioned windows. To the west of the doorway an inserted
doorway, enclosed by C20 half-glazed flat-roofed porch, and
above, a 3-light flush-mullioned window. To the west of the
inserted door, a former doorway with a massive surround, now
adapted to form a window, with a C20 frame with a top-hung
light. Above, a small single light with a C20 frame. Extending
to the west is an attached single-storey outbuilding of four
bays, each bay with a quoined surround to its doorway, and
substantial lintels. Plain planked stable doors. Extending to
the east, an attached two-storey outbuilding with two doorways
of different widths and heights, each with stone-framed
surrounds and planked doors. The front of the house is
enclosed by a low masonry wall with shallow saddleback copings
and surmounted by spear-headed railings which incorporate low
square gatepiers with depressed pyramidal caps, and an iron
gate with spear-headed railings. Taller added wall encloses
inserted doorway and added west bay.
Rear elevation with two-bay cross-wing, having on the east
elevation stacked pairs of two-light flush mullioned windows,
the northernmost pair at a higher level than the southern pair
which serve a staircase. The west elevation has a single bay
offshut beneath a catslide roof, with a single-light C18
window to the east of the cross-wing, a single sash window,
each sash divided into 2 panes. To the west of the cross-wing,
a 2-light flush mullioned window, and a single-light C17
window now blocked. The plain window openings to remaining
part of outbuilding, together with a single quoined doorway
with plank door.
