II Prentices Farm
House, early C16 and c.1600. Timber framed and pebble dashed with plain clay tile roofs. Of 'T' plan form and two storeys with a gabled cross-wing at the north end with hipped and gabletted rear slope. The 'hall' range is gabled to the south and there is a gabled C17 stair tower, to the rear, at the junction of the two blocks. Windows are C19 small pane casements but with one C19 double hung sash to the first floor of the cross-wing. Small stack through north slope of cross-wing and C19 stack at intersection of roof of the two blocks. Decorative C19 bargeboards and finials and contemporary door hood to front door, partially concealing early C16 arched door head with carved spandrels and brattishing. The 'hall' range consists of one bay of chestnut and elm framing with heavy jowled posts and bridging joists with 'flat and bowtell' mouldings. Evidently one surviving bay wing was formerly jettied and has very close elm studding on the front elevation, jowled posts and straight wall bracing. Remnants of a diamond mullioned window survive in the north wall and of a typical 'T' shaped ovolo mullioned window in the ground floor of the front. Gabled brick C19 oven on north flank of cross-wing.
