the first two sentences shall be amended to read "School building, unoccupied at time of listing (1992). 1911-12 (dated 1911 over doorway), designed as extension to Cowley School (1875-82, by H. Sumners of Liverpool, destroyed by fire, October 1993)." and the last sentence shall be amended to read "Formerly linked to the earlier Cowley School building (latterly known as the North Block) by an external corridor."

Extension to school, unoccupied at time of inspection (1992). 1911-12 (dated 1911 over doorway). Small red bricks in stretcher bond with dressings of buff terracotta, slate roof hipped over main range with wooden bellcote. Modified U-plan composed of double-pile main range with short wings clasping a projected ground floor. Edwardian Baroque style. Two storeys, 3:5:3 windows at 1st floor, symmetrical. The projected ground floor is flat- roofed, has a moulded terracotta plinth, banded clasping corner pilasters and plain frieze with flat coping; a wide central doorway in an elaborate open-pedimented terracotta architrave which has paired pilasters, a panel lettered A. 1911 D. and swaged cartouche lettered COWLEY SCHOOL; and 3 tall windows each side with terracotta sills and keystones. Behind and above is the school hall, which has 5 large segmental-headed multi-pane windows with moulded terracotta heads and keystones, that in the centre taller and with an open segmental-pedimented architrave; a modillioned cornice and plain parapet run out from the pediment (and carried around the wings); and a hipped roof which has wooden bellcote in the centre with geometrical open tracery, a domed roof and tall finial. The wings have clasping corner pilasters, banded open-pedimented gables, 3 windows on each floor with flat-arched heads and an enriched oculus in the gable. Left return wall has a projected 3-window centre with semi-circular open pediment, and modillioned. Rear of common brick, regular fenestration with flat-arched red-brick heads; diagonal single- storey porch in angle with projecting north wing. Interior not inspected. Forms group with North Block (q.v.), to which it is linked by an external corridor.
