GV II
Coal offices. c1870, restored c1985. Built for the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Co. Coursed rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 5 ridge stacks. Plinth, stepped first floor band, coped gables. Curved plan, built into a slope, so that the wharf side has 2 storeys and the rear, facing the former railway coal yard, has a single storey. Windows are plain sashes. Doors have 4 panels and overlights. Ground floor openings boarded up. Wharf side has a near-central double gable with 2 windows, flanked by 5 windows to left and 4 to right. Ground floor has 10 doors and 10 windows arranged in pairs, with single doors at either end. The height of the openings increases towards the right with the slope of the ground. Rear has a similar central double gable and projecting left gable with a double sash. 3 doors to left have no overlights. 3 doors to right are reached by a raised pavement with renewed iron railing. INTERIOR not inspected. This building provided office accommodation for both rail and canal based coal merchants. Building vacant at time of survey.
