Courtyard workshops. Early, mid and late C19, with C20 additions and alterations. Brick, the front block colourwashed, with stone dressings and slate and stone slate roofs with various ridge and gable stacks. EXTERIOR: front block, early C19, has dentilled eaves and slightly projecting pedimented centre. Centre has three 12 pane sashes with splayed lintels. To left, a similar sash. To right, a rendered bay with a similar window in a moulded stucco surround. Below, in the centre, a double loading door with glazing bar overlight and lintel, flanked by single 12 pane sashes. To left, a similar sash and to right a segment-headed entrance with moulded surround and keystone. Panelled door and sidelight, and above a heavy transom, a 4-pane overlight. Lower 2 storey block, to right, mid C19, has 4 plain sashes. Below, to left, an elliptical arched carriage entrance with keystone. To its right, 4 altered plain sashes, then a wooden doorcase with pilasters and cornice. The windows have stone lintels. Rear has five 9 pane metal casements and above, a slate hung raised portion with a glazed mansard roof. Below, three 9 pane windows to left of the carriage opening. Rear windows have concrete lintels. Block to right has 2 paired 12 pane sashes and below, 2 blocked openings. South range, late C19, brick with glazed brick facing to the upper floors. 2 storeys plus basement; 6 window range. 6 closely spaced metal glazing bar casements flanked to left by half-glazed door with stone steps and overlight. Above, 7 similar casements, the left one smaller. Below, 4 segment-headed basement openings with 3-light wooden glazing bar casements and to right a door and sidelight. To left, a lower 2 storey block, early C19, with stone slate roof. To left, a door with external brick and stone stair and landing. To its right, two 2-light casements, then a 28 pane casement, all with glazing bars. Below, an altered 2 light casement and to right a C20 single storey lean-to addition with corrugated asbestos roof. East range, early C19, has to right a 3 storey block; 6 window range. First floor has four 3-light glazing bar casements flanked by single C20 doors, the right one with stone landing. Above, six 3-light glazing bar casements. Below, 4 much larger 3-light glazing bar casements. To left, an early C19 block with a coped gable. 2 storeys; 2 window range. Small opening to left and large window to right, both boarded up. At the left end, a brick and stone stair, C19, leading to a C20 steel gallery with handrail which crosses this building to give access to the adjoining block. Below, 2 board doors, the left one with overlight, flanked to left by a small glazing bar casement and to right by a segment-headed window. Rear elevation, to Carver Lane, has 3 storey central block with 8 casements of 2 and 3 lights, some of them reglazed. Above, 8 glazing bar casements, 2 and 3 lights. Below, to left, 2 larger 3-light casements, the left one altered and a C19 door inserted. Lower block to right has a single window to right and below, a central door with an altered doorway and window to left and a window to right, all boarded up. To left, a gable, brick with a slate hung clerestory. Single 3-light segment-headed casement and above, a similar flat-headed casement. Below, a recessed C20 double door. INTERIOR not inspected. These buildings are a typical example of the small scale courtyard workshops characteristic of Sheffield.
