Bank. 1894, with mid C20 alterations. By JB Mitchell-Withers. For the Sheffield Union Banking Co. Brick with ashlar front and gabled and hipped slate roof with various stacks. EXTERIOR: plinth, rusticated ground floor, quoins, minor cornice, eaves cornice. 3 storeys; 3 window range. 3 x 7 windows. Triangular corner site. Upper floors are divided by giant pilasters and have plain sashes with reflective glass. Corner entrance bay has 3 windows, the larger central one with segmental pediment, and above, 3 smaller windows. Below, a semicircular rusticated porch with entablature and coped blocking course. Moulded ashlar doorcase with scroll bracket to cornice, and renewed panelled double doors. On either side, a small casement with voussoirs. Right return has 6 plain sashes with segmental pediments, and above, 6 smaller windows. Below, 5 casements and a blank, all with voussoirs. Narrower entrance bay, to right, has a moulded 4-panel door with overlight, and above, a small sash between each floor. To right, an ashlar porch with plain door. Plinth has a cast-iron milestone attached. Angled left return has a panelled coped rear wall stack and a single window with segmental pediment. Above it, a smaller window. Ground floor has a single window with multiple keystone. To its left, an angled single storey projection, with a smaller similar window. Beyond, brick rear range with a massive coped brick and ashlar side wall stack. INTERIOR refitted and ceilings inserted late C20. (Researches by G Hague, Sheffield City Council).
