SK 53 NW BEESTON AND STAPLEFORD SALTHOUSE LANE
(west side) 2/45 Dagfa House School II House, now a school. Early C19. Brick, stucco and colourwash.
Gabled slate roofs. Ashlar plinth, deep eaves, 3 ridge and
single gable stacks. 2 storeys plus attics, 3 bays wide by 5
bays deep. Irregular T-plan. Windows are mainly Gothick leaded
casements. Garden front has to right, 2 storey gabled wing with
hipped timber latticed verandah. In return angle, 2 storey
square turret. 3 tall casements. Above, 3 casements, that to
right with hood mould. East front has higher 2 storey section to
right and off-centre 2 storey wing with full width gabled bay
window. To left, porch in return angle, with Gothick panelled
door and overlight. Flanked to left by a casement and beyond, a
blank panel. To right, 2 casements and door with overlight.
Above, to left, a blank panel and a casement. To its right,
casement with hood mould and beyond, 3 casements. North gable
has latticed barred casement and door. Return angle has, above,
a Gothick casement and irregular C20 fenestration. Principal
rooms have plaster wall panels with wood or plaster architraves.
Music Room has oval plaster ceiling panel, Adam style, with
moulded cornice. Study has deep foliate cornice and frieze.
Library has cornice and moulded wood fireplace flanked to left by
fitted cupboard and to right by door, both with fanlights.
Cantilevered principal staircase and landing, c,1870,,Gothic
Revival style with turned balusters, newels and strapwork.
Service winder stair has stick balusters. Moulded wood fireplace
with Greek Key, early C19, and oak fireplace with composite
columns, late C19. Gothick panelled door.
