ST5115 BRYMPTON D'EVERCY CP 10/20 Group of eight monuments in churchyard, south and west of nave, Church of St. Andrew GV II* An extremely good group of C16, C17 and early C18 monuments, mostly in good condition. (a) Unidentified monument about 2 metres south-west of porch; Chest tomb. Early C16. Ham stone. Chamfered plinth; quatrefoil panelled sides, one panel to east end, 3 to each flank, all with shields in centre uncarved, west end plain with chalice drawing inscribed; cavetto mould coving to thick flat top. No inscriptions. (b) Kygell monunent about 2 metres south of nave; Chest tomb. C16. Ham stone. Moulded plinth; plain sides and flanks; moulded coving to flat top. Commemorates Thomas Kygell buried 22nd April 1577, and Elizabeth his wife, buried 30th June 1588. (c) Unidentified monument about 2 metres south-west of nave: Chest tomb. C16. Ham stone. Moulded base; plain sides and flanks; cavetto-mould coving to heavy flat top. commemorates Johanis Wo- died 1576. (d) Michell Monument about 4 metres west-south-west of nave: Chest tomb C17. Ham stone. Moulded base; semi-circular-arched panels, one each end and 2 each flank, with imposts, keystones and dentilling, reeded pilasters to flanks, plain frieze; moulded coving to heavy hipped top. Commemorates John Michell, died 1683, and others. (e) Michell monument about 3 metres west of nave: Chest tomb. C18. Ham stone. Moulded base; semi-circular arched panels, one each end and two each flank, with imposts, keystones and dentilling, plain frieze; moulded coving to heavy hipped top. Commemorates various members of Michell family including Ann, died 1722, and Dorothy, died 1730. (f) Nowis monument aboout 6 metres west of nave: Chest tomb. C17. Ham stone Moulded plinth; plain sides and flanks; cyma-recta coving to heavy flat top. Commemorates John Nowis died 1645, and another John Nowis died 1730 (g) Michell monument about 4 metres west of nave: Headstone. C17. Ham stone. Slab about 400mm wide x 600mm high, 75mm thick with chamfered back; semi- circular arched top, simple incised border. Commemorates Elizabeth, daughter of Ann and Charles Michell, died 1700 (?). (h) Michell monument about 6 metres west of nave: Headstone. C18. Ham stone with lias stone insert. Slab about 800mm wide and one metre high, 100mm thick with chamfered back, triangular top: carved roll border, with angel-head in pediment over. Commemorates Ann Michell, died 1716.
