House, formerly antique showroom, now restaurant.
Late C16/early C17, front altered C18, with late C19 alterations, restored 1980s
(Architects Kirby Adair). Timber-framed, plastered front with
colour-washed brick left-hand (east) flank wall. Old tile roof
behind parapet front, above modillioned wood cornice,
PLAN: long single range plan with central entrance, large
left-hand (east) room with fireplace at far end, central
unheated staircase hall, 2 west rooms, one possibly an office,
and the other a dining room served from the kitchen in the
rear outshoot.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. Front elevation has 5
irregularly spaced flush set 16-pane sash windows with
projecting architrave surrounds, 4 similar but taller windows
on ground floor, with moulded wood band immediately above the
heads making the original jettied first floor. Central doorway
with recessed tie beam with mortices for braces, now removed.
Attics have exposed rafters with mortices for collars
indicating raising of ceiling. Reused timber includes a purlin
with diamond mortices, previously a window plate.
Roof with 4 hip roofed casement dormers, half hipped
right-hand (west) end, red brick chimneystack with projecting
band and 3 tapered square terracotta pots at left (east).
