WEYMOUTH SO6879NW CRESCENT STREET
873-1/18/53 (West side)
14/06/74 Nos.6-12 (Consecutive) GV II Terrace of 7 houses. c1800-1810 (RCHME). Rendered, slate or
asbestos-cement slate roofs, and concrete tiles to the upper
slope in No.9.
The terrace was part of the development best represented by
Nos 33 & 34 (qv) on the opposite side of the street, but a
number of changes have occurred.
Mansard roofs with 2 levels of accommodation, each property
1-window wide (No.9 wider). Original dormers survive in Nos 8
& 9, a full-height bow with curved 16-pane sashes in reveals
and solid cheeks to Nos 6 & 9; elsewhere the original sashes
have been variously replaced. No.10 has been refaced, with an
extra main storey and reduced attic space; it has a canted
2-storey oriel above a C19 shop front in 4 vertical lights,
pilasters with consoles, and a dentilled fascia cornice.
To the left of each is an arched doorway, all with replacement
doors, with radial fanlights to Nos 6, 7 & 8, but blocked to
No.9, which also has an extra bay to its left, with a C20 door
under a blocked opening, and an extra dormer.
A small plinth, a mid-height plain string, cornice to No.6,
simplified to Nos 7, 8 & 9, and with paired brick 'dentils' to
Nos 11 & 12, blocking course and parapet (except No.10). Nos 6
& 9 have a ridge stack to the right, and there is a shared
ridge stack to Nos 11 & 12.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Although originally consistent in design, and clearly one
piece of development, the roofs indicate that the units were
built separately rather than as a terrace; despite various
alterations, this remains the best minor terrace in the
street.
