House. Mid C17, enlarged in late C17, further enlarged in mid
C19, reduced and refurbished 1946. Timber-framed and
plastered, rough rendered, red brick, peg tile and slate
roofs. Rectangular plan. 2 storeys and cellar. E elevation:
rendered, 2 window range, roof hipped with eaves coving that
has impressed pargetting. Windows to N have moulded
architraves, double lights with glazing bars, 6x4 panes, upper
sliding sash, lower was sliding, now converted to casements.
Windows to S, C19 3-cant bay window through both storeys,
sashes, 2x4, 4x4, 2x4 panes, old glass survives. Central
doorway once, now removed. S, garden elevation: irregular
range, hipped roof to E with rear stack, gabled roof continues
to W, eaves coving continued round from E elevation. Central
C20 4-centred arch headed doorway with C20 boarded and
battened door. To E, ground floor, C19 sash window 3x4 panes,
French window with upper glazing 2x3 panes. To W of doorway,
C20 3-light casement window 3x3 panes. First floor, above
doorway, simple sash window, to W, C19 3x4 paned sash window.
Both older windows have some original glass. A clear crack in
the plaster to E of door shows junction of builds. W rear
elevation: 2 parallel gabled units, to S, brick with single
ground and first floor segment-headed windows. C20 2 and
3-light casements respectively. Minor C20 stack at S corner. N
unit, gable timber-framed and plastered, set back with C19
brick and slated lean-to, flush and contiguous with S block.
Ground floor C19 `stable' door, blocked window aperture to N.
First floor 4x3 paned sliding sash window. N elevation: long
range, central ridge stack, to E, plain but weatherboarded to
W. Windows, ground floor, one 2-light 2x2 panes, one 2-light
4x2 panes, single first floor 2-light casement window
originally C19, restored. W end, lean-to wall of flint cobble
and brick with 2-light pantry window, one light of gauze, one
of leaded panes.
INTERIOR: outer framing members partly exposed. Mid C17 oak
dado panelling in ground floor passage. Phases of
construction. (1) N range, mid C17 with large stack central to
2-celled house. (2) late C17 addition of wing to S at E end,
facade created. (3) early C19 SW block. E facade bay windows.
(4) mid C19 brick W gable and adjacent lean-to. Refurbishment
in 1946 included the demolition of extensions at SW corner.
