ST 67 NE PUCKLECHURCH C.P. SHORTWOOD ROAD (west side) 4/199 Dennisworth Farmhouse

G.V. II* Farmhouse, now house. Late C17 with few later alterations. Limestone rubble
with stone dressings, double Roman tiled roof with raised coped verges, ridge
stacks and gable stack to left with diagonal chimneys. T-plan formed by rear
stair tower. 2½ storeys and 3 windows, all cross windows with leaded lights,
flat moulded mullion and transom in recessed architrave, continuous hood mould to
3 ground floor windows and door, continuous dripstone at first floor returned to
sides, 3rd bay from right has studded door in heavy stone bolection-moulded
surround and broken pediment; 3 gables rising to ridge height, 2 to right with
smaller cross windows with hood mould, to left, blank (stack above) oval bull's
eyes in rectangular surround, ball finials; attached to left 3 small gabled
additions of varied sizes, to left with door and porch, centre with cross window
and hood mould, to right single light with hood mould. Left return has single
storey lean-to with C20 window, 2-storey flat-roofed block to left with small
segmental-headed stone window with ventilation louvres; first floor has similar
cross window with dripstone, cross window in gable end with bull's eye above.
Right return has single storey lean-to, first floor and 2nd floor windows as at
left return. Rear has 3 gables as on front (without finials), 2½ storey stair
tower with gable to all 3 sides, ground and first floor 2-light casement with hood
mould, lead water spouts and oval bull's eye; left return of tower as front with
single storey lean-to, right return has only 2nd floor window and bull's eye,
small single storey addition to right with similar 2-light casement, lean-to to
right over cellar entry. Main house has to left, ground, first and 2nd floor
cross windows with continuous hood moulds and bull's eye in gable, small similar
2-light casement ground floor left; to right of tower, 2 gables, first and 2nd
floor windows as on front, ground floor right has top sections of former cross
window remaining, C20 door inserted below. Interior: large kitchen fireplace
with chamfered depressed 4-centred arch; central hall, fine framed newel stair
with moulded risers, carved string, twisted balusters and heavy shaped newels,
wide moulded handrail, panelled moulded soffit; small door to cellar with dentil
