MONK SOHAM TM 16 NE & TM 26 NW 1/141 & 2/141 Broadway Farmhouse - - II
Former farmhouse. C16 with C17 alterations; probably in 2 main phases. Timber framed and plastered, roof of concrete plaintiles. A 2-cell right hand range with a slightly lower in-line section to the left; set forward at the junction of these 2 sections is a further gabled wing. 1 1/2 storeys. Mid C20 standard single-paned casement windows. To the right, 2 low flat-roofed mid C20 dormers. Internal stack at junction of the 2 main sections. Gable end of forward wing has cut-down remains of external stack. C20 doors in the gable ends to left and right, the former with a timber trellis porch. Interior. Considerably modernised, especially on upper floor where most of the timbers are concealed except in the rear wall. 2 bays to right of stack: widely- spaced full-height studding; exposed joists, set flat, on ground floor, a cross-partition between the bays removed. The 2 bays to left of stack also have widely-spaced full-height studs, the wallplate set lower; inserted upper floor with ogee-moulded square joists, perhaps late C17. Newel stair. Roof not examined but thought to be substantially intact.
