II

Large house. Late C17 with later extension to rear. Large
blocks squared and dressed limestone with occasional courses of
shallow blocks. The two right-hand bays have been rebuilt in
smaller coursed squared and dressed limestone; continuous rendered
band below the eaves brick extension; stone slate roof; C20 brick
stacks with moulded limestone cappings. Rectangular plan with
brick extension at right angles to rear. Two storeys, cellar and
attic. Seven-windowed facade lit by double-chamfered stone-
mullioned cross windows; continuous dripmould over the ground
floor windows. C20 panelled door off-centre right with C20 hall
light and shell-headed canopy, which rises up above the continuous
dripmould. Four 2-light hipped eaves dormers with C20 two-light
casements. All windows with leaded panes. C20 opening with
concrete lintel to the right gable end. Three large chimnney
gables at the rear of the main body. Hipped roof. Interior
reputed to contain early beams with hooks; a fine large stone
fireplace with timber chimneypiece and several other original
fireplaces; a fine balustraded staircase and panelling to dado
height. Exterior inspected from public highway, interior not
accessible.
