ST GORAN CANTON (north side), Gorran Haven SX 0041 0141 5/89 The Old Customs House with attached - rear garden wall

GV II

House, with attached rear garden wall. Circa early C19, with C20 alterations and additions. Stone rubble; rendered and slate-hung. Slate roof with ridge tiles; gable end to left and hipped to right. Gable end stack to left with rendered shaft. Stack to right removed. Plan: 2-room plan, with the entrance at the left side; the house is built on a fish cellar which has access at the front at road level. Rear service addition, with a garden wall attached to rear left enclosing a rear garden. Exterior: 2 storeys, nearly symmetrical 3-window front. The cellar has C20 8-pane casement, half-glazed door, and to right two C19 4-pane sashes with central half- glazed door of C20 set in shallow open-fronted porch with pitched roof. The upper ground floor level and first floor have three C20 2-light 6-pane casements, except for the upper ground floor window to right is a C19 2-light 8-pane casement. The left end is slate-hung, with a external stair leading to a C20 porch with C20 door and C20 single light casement. The right end has a 2-light casement at first floor to centre. At the rear there is a 2-storey lean-to with C20 2-light casement at the left side. The rear garden is enclosed by a painted stone rubble wall, about 2 metres high, and running in an L-plan from the left side of the house. Interior: Not inspected.
