HALBERTON SS 90 NE 4/177 - - Way Mill II
Detached house, formerly a farmhouse. Cl7. Plastered cob on stone footings. Gabled-end slate roof. Formerly a 3-room, through-passage plan, with an extended service-end to the right of the passage, and with a wing to the rear of the inner room. End stack heats inner room rear internal rear lateral stack heats hall, and what was formerly an end stack at service end. All with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Front: 5-window range, 3-light casement windows to 1st floor, with C19 and C20 frames in original openings, 32 leaded panes per light; one 3-light window to each ground floor room, with a 2-light window to service-end extension, all as above. Entrance to through-passage with C20 glazed and slated porch; C19 door to service-end extension with rectangular fanlight. Rear with two 3-light casement windows, and a small single-light stair window. The original C17 ovolo-moulded window surrounds have all been removed. Interior: Service-end, fireplace with chamfered lintel, one scroll stop, back oven; one ovolo-moulded cross beam. Passage, blocked to rear, with one screen, unchamfered muntins, plaster between, and with one square-headed doorway, cyma recta moulded lintels, step-stopped and simple chamfered lintel. Hall fireplace with timber lintel, chamfered with scroll stops; chamfered cross beam with one end stopped. Dog-leg staircase, C17, to the rear of the inner room, bobbin balusters and newels remain to the landing and all the original treads and risers. 2 doors, both with rails, studded, survive with ovolo-moulded doorway surround.
