5/4 Landrake House II Vicarage, now house. Early to mid C18, remodelled and extended in mid C19, with C20
alterations. Slatestone rubble, front roughcast, partly painted. Hipped slate roof
with brick and rubble stacks to rear of front rooms.
Plan: double depth plan, with principal room to front left and right, each heated by
a rear lateral stack. Rear left kitchen, with fireplace backing on to the fireplace
in front left loom. In the mid C19, the rear wall to the centre was partly
demolished to create a stair hall, and the rear right room, probably originally a
service room, was remodelled as a parlour, with fireplace back to back with the front
right fireplace.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 5-window range, all windows 12-pane sashes, mostly
C20 replacemnts; at first floor a swept string course over the segmental heads of the
ground floor windows. Central half-glazed double doors of C20 roof light. Right
side has a 16-pane sash at ground floor to the rear room and 12-pane sash at first
floor. Left side in painted rubble, with 16-pane sash in gabled dormer. Rear in
painted rubble, with C20 door to right, single ventilation light to right and 6-pane
light to left. Half-glazed C20 door to left and 2-light casement at first floor.
Rear range appears to be all of one build.
Interior: Room to front left has C18 4-panelled door, one C18 cupboard remaining on
rear wall with round arch and shaped shelves, panelled shutters to windows. Front
right has had the partition wall to the entrance hall removed; retains shutters to
windows. Stair hall has open-well stair with wreathed handrail and stick balusters.
The parlour to rear right has 6-panelled door, C19 marble chimneypiece, plain cornice
and shutters to windows. In the rear range, there is a passage running from front to
rear, with a straight service stair. Small pantry and scullery, slate floor to
kitchen. At first floor, the 3 rooms to front all have C18 2-panelled doors.
