Warehouse and factory. Dated 1906. By GS Doughty of Nottingham
for Philo L Mills. Red brick with concrete and terracotta
dressings. Windows are mainly original plain sashes with
moulded segmental heads and hood moulds.
Main block, 4 storeys; 9 windows, has plinth, first floor and
eaves cornices. Ground floor has to right an entrance bay with
Baroque Revival style doorcase, with round-arched doorway and
keystone flanked by rusticated columns carrying a segmental
broken pediment. To left, a round-arched cart entrance in the
same style, with Art Nouveau style wrought-iron gates. To left
again, a round-arched doorway flanked by rusticated pilasters,
and beyond 5 windows, then a similar doorway with segmental
hood on brackets. First floor has to right a Venetian window
with voussoirs, flanked to left by loading door. Beyond, 7
windows. Upper floors have regular fenestration, with a
tripartite window to right, and 8 windows to left.
Slightly projecting block to left, 4 storeys plus basement; 7
window range. Plain version of the same style, with similar
windows on each floor, 2 altered, and plain parapet.
Rear elevation, to Plumptre Street, white glazed brick with
blue brick plinth and ashlar dressings. Art Nouveau ironwork.
Sill bands to each floor, eaves cornice, wrought-iron
balustrade railing with glazed brick pedestals and ball
finials. 3 storeys plus basement; 6 window range. Ground floor
has to right a segment-arched cart opening with keystone and
Art Nouveau style wrought-iron gates. To left, 4 windows.
Above, regular fenestration.
