Naish's Farm House, with front boundary wall and gate piers
(Previously listed as Parsonage Farmhouse)

19.4.61

- II*

Farmhouse. Early C18. Local stone cut and squared, random coursed; plain
clay tile roof, over base courses of stone slates, between coped gables;
rendered end chimney stacks, 'T'-plan, 2-storeys of 3-bays. Central
stone solid sided gabled porch with ball finial and clay tile roof;
semi-circular doorway arch with keystone, 6-panel door inside; casement
windows in flat voussoired arches with keystones, those to ground floor
being cruciform, some crown glass. Extension on East side to match, of
C19, with similar casements and semi-circular headed doorway now blocked
with window. Gabled stair wing to rear, with ball finial; part glazed
door with 8-panes, and above 2 semi-circular headed windows, leaded with
much crown glass. Interior little altered except for new access to
extension; very large entrance hall, compared with rooms, with chequered
stone flag floor, balustered staircase, and C18 doors and doorcases;
some ceiling cornices, a bolection mould fireplace. Rooms not seen. Low
local stone front boundary wall with shallow coping swept up to square
gate piers about 1.5 metres high, terminating in ball finials. The house
not only a fairly complete survival, but of interest as being for
generations home of the Parsons family, including the eccentric Henry
Parsons, builder of Parson's Steeple on Steart Hill (qv). (VAG Report,
unpublished SRO, December 1981).
