Farm House

House. Mid to late C17, extended in C18 and mid C19. Red brick with some
timber framing. Part roughcast. Tiled roofs. Original building is of an
unusual form, a long rectangular range, all of 2 storeys but of
differing heights, possibly 2 or more builds. All roughcast to front,
tallest bay at original right end. Panelled door with cambered head to
reveal. First floor 2 light timber glazing bar casement with a moulded
flush frame. Roof hipped to right. Gable end to left steps down to a
lower gable ended bay with similar 2 light casements. Gable has exposed
timber struts in C17 brick work. Further left a longer 2 bay range, to
right a ground floor 2 light casement and a raked 2 light dormer. Lower
ground floor to left with an entrance and a 3 light casement all under a
hood. First floor 2 light casement. To far left an C18 extension with an
entrance way and a 2 light window. Red brick C19 additions are to right.
One 3 bay wing projects forward. Gable end to front with extruded stack
with offsets, gable parapet with moulded kneelers. Left return: glazing
bar sashes in reveals with gauged brick flat arched heads, stone sills.
Ground floor centre and first floor 2 bays to front are blind. Cellar
entrance with a cambered head. Right return has 1 bay of glazing bar
sashes in a vertical plum brick band. To right end is second C19 block.
1 bay with entrance to left, panelled door, timber porch with simple
entablature. Glazing bar sashes. Roof hipped to front. 1 bay right
return, plum brick with red brick dressings, glazing bar sashes. Rear
elevation: English bond red brick to original building, altered
openings. To left, ground floor C19 6 light casement, cambered head,
first floor small 2 light casement in an earlier large opening with a
crudely cambered head. To right a very large C17 external chimney
breast, multiple offsets, small window in left side, plat band, tall c19
cap with diagonally set course. To right of stack a first floor 2 light
casement. To far right in lower range an entrance and blocked openings.
To left C19 gable end, 2 light casement with a cambered head, stack. To
far left a 1 storey brick outbuilding with an enclosed glass and timber
front, hipped roof. To far left from front a 1 storey weatherboarded
outbuilding with a hipped roof. Interior: stop chamfered bearers, early
C18 staircase with vase balusters, panelled stair well and first floor
