GV II*

Three houses and attached stable combined to form one house with stable. Cottage C17 and two houses of early C18 remodelled as one in mid C20; stable early C19; conservatory added at rear in 1987. Timber-framed cottage; red brick with plain tile and concrete tile roofs. EXTERIOR OF SOUTH BLOCK: street front 2 storeys and dormer attic; 5-window front. Central 8-panelled door with glazed top panels in doorcase of Roman Doric pilasters with triglyph frieze and open segmental pediment. Windows are unhorned sashes with 6/6 glazing bars, under gauged skewback arches and within flush frames. Timber cornice with modillions below plain parapet. Hipped roof with 3 flat-topped dormers fitted with 6/6 unhorned sashes. Central ridge stack. Rear: dominated by full-width single-storey conservatory. Renewed 6/6 first-floor sashes. Staircase bay projects slightly under a gable. INTERIOR OF SOUTH BLOCK: one room deep. 2 main rooms on ground floor, both with large-framed C18 fielded panelling and mid C19 chimneypieces, timber to north room, marble to south room. North room with an C18 2-panelled door. Archway leads to staircase: early C18 bobbin-turned balusters, moulded handrail and closed string. First floor: south room with C18 large-framed panelling, north room probably also panelled behind C20 boarding. 2-panelled doors on HL hinges. EXTERIOR OF NORTH BLOCK: 2 storeys and dormer attic; 3-window front. Central 6-panel door in pilastered and pedimented doorcase with panelled reveals. One 8/8 unhorned sash to right of doorway and 2 to left, all within flush frames and with gauged skewback arches. At extreme right further 6-panel door with glazed top panels in reeded early C19 doorcase. Three sashes on first floor. Bell-based roof hipped to south with one flat-topped dormer with a 3/3 sash. Internal gable-end stack to north. INTERIOR OF NORTH BLOCK: north room with large-framed C18 fielded panelling and 2 glazed cupboards c1830. South room with large-framed fielded panelling to west wall. Against east wall are 2 cupboards, one either side of 3 inserted wall arches. At right angles to main blocks a small timber-framed cottage almost completely absorbed into the later builds. STABLE BLOCK: runs north from north-east corner of house, with hipped roof to north. 2 storeys: carriage doorway left of centre below loft door and casement windows at intervals.
