Church at De La Pole Hospital (Block 49) II Church at mental hospital, now disused. 1880-85, by Smith & Brodrick of Hull. Red brick with ashlar and blue brick dressings and slate roofs. Plinth, sill band, coped gables. Early English style. Pointed arched windows with hood moulds. Chancel, nave with porches, south transept and organ chamber, bell turret. Chancel, 2 bays, has a canted apse with hipped roof and 3 single lancets. North side has 2 lancets. Nave, 4 bays, has small buttresses. To east, two 3-light windows with geometrical tracery. West end has a large 5-light window with similar tracery. Large lean-to porches cover the western part of the nave. Each has a triple lancet window to west, and a pointed arched double doorway to east, with a central round column. South transept has a 3-light traceried window in the gable, and a single lancet to east. In the return angle to west, a plain square tower, single stage, with a pointed arched doorway. Round ashlar bell turret, with open arcading and plain spire topped with a cross. Interior: plain brick, with flush ashlar sill and impost bands. Chancel has moulded and rebated arch with hood mould and imposts, and arch braced roof. South side has pointed arched doorway with hood mould, and pointed arched opening containing organ. Apse has wooden ribs on corbels. No stained glass. Chancel has common rafter roof. In alternate bays, arch braces on foliage corbels, and tie rods. Windows and doorways have chamfered heads. No stained glass. Fittings include panelled wooden pulpit, original benches and choir stalls, and altar rail on wrought iron supports. Memorials include a Gothic style marble and slate tablet, c1900.
