SZ6299 BROAD STREET, The Point 774-1/11/453 (West side) 25/09/72 Nos.63 AND 65 Spice Island Inn (Formerly Listed as: BATH SQUARE, The Point No.1 The Coal Exchange Public House) (Formerly Listed as: BROAD STREET Nos.63 AND 65 The Lone Yachtsman)

2 public houses, now one. Early C19, extensive alterations 1991. Grey header bricks, red brick dressings, stucco to ground floor. Plain tile mansard roof. 3 storeys and attic. Former Lone Yachtsman public house of 3 x 5 bays linked by 3-bay 1991 infill to former Coal Exchange public house of 1 x 4 bays. EXTERIOR: Broad Street elevation (former Lone Yachtsman PH): late C20 central door with C20 windows to left and right. Pilasters at corners and half-width pilasters between door and windows with frieze and cornice over, mosaic tiles to fascia with original inscription "Brickwoods Brilliant Ales". 2 sashes on first floor and 3 on second floor, each of 12-panes, and set under flat brick gauged arch, first floor has blind central window with covering sign which reads "The Union Tavern". Brick dentil band with moulded stone capping over second-floor windows; stone coped parapet. 2 flat-roofed dormer windows, each with 4-pane sash. C20 extension on left. Right return to Bath Square similar, 5 bays with ground-floor mosaic tile fascia inscribed "Brickwoods Brilliant Ales and Stout. Wines and Spirits". 3 dormers. To right 3-bay 1991 stuccoed infill, replacing 1962 infill. Further right former "Coal exchange" public house, early C19 much altered. Large C20 window on first floor. Second floor has C20 casement window set in original surround. Coped parapet over. Return of this section (on to Bath Square) has late C19 windows to left and right; fascia and moulded cornice over. First floor partly painted black, has C20 door and window on left leading to narrow C20 balcony with attached railings and large C20 window on right with brick infill below sill. Four C20 casement windows set in original openings with flat gauged brick arches to 2nd floor. Coped parapet. 2

dormers. C20 lantern attached to corner. INTERIOR: north wall of former Coal Exchange Public House has C18 timber framing with brick infill.
