LINCOLN SK9771NW UNION ROAD
1941-1/8/389 (East side)
02/10/69 Hilton House and attached wall and
gatepiers GV II House, now flats. C18, remodelled c1840. Stucco with hipped
slate roof and 4 side wall stacks.
EXTERIOR: plinth, first floor band, rusticated quoins. 2 and 3
storeys, 4 bays. South front has to right 2 tent roofed canted
bay windows, and to their left, a window with pilastered
surround and cornice. Above, 4 windows with multiple
keystones. All these windows are margin light sashes.
East side has an off-centre projection with a rusticated porch
to left with pilasters and cornice. Round headed doorway with
keystone and C19 half-glazed door and sidelights. To the left,
in an angled projection, a plain sash in a round headed
opening with keystone. To the right, a square bay window with
pilasters and cornice, and plain sashes. Above, 2 glazing bar
sashes with multiple keystones, and above again, 2 smaller
glazing bar sashes.
Beyond, to right, a rear wing, 2 storeys, with a tripartite
sash on each floor.
INTERIOR not inspected.
North-west side has an attached stucco panelled wall with
coping, and a pair of square gatepiers with cornices.
William Hilton, historical painter, lived here, and the house
was subsequently owned by his brother in law, the painter
Peter de Wint.
