Lodge. c1840. By HE Goodridge. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof. PLAN: Main entrance facing the entrance gates, and secondary front to Bathwick Hill. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, all plain sashes with square brackets to sills, under each jamb or mullion; the entrance front with a single and double in broad plat surrounds to the first floor, above a panelled door and transom light and two light, in broad plat mullions and jambs, a deep platband above, continuous with the head of door and window, and sill band. Deep plinth with steep offsets, stone eaves cornice on brackets, coped gables as open pediments, the cornice returned a short distance. The front to Bathwick Hill is detailed in the same way, with an open pediment above a two light mullioned sash at each level, then a slightly set back wing with return gable over a two light; to the right is a garage, the mid platband carried across as parapet. Large ridge stack with heavy capping. INTERIOR: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: The entrance is approached by a short flight of steps to a landing, contained by a balustrade with slightly cusped narrow openings, to two square piers and a stopped pier end. Attached to and running left from the rear of the Lodge is a retaining wall, with central panelled pier, and with crowning balustrade in the same detail, approx 1.7m high, and stopped to one of a pair of large gatepiers with moulded bases and panelled faces, to heavy cross-pedimented cappings on deep block brackets. Wrought-iron gates are C20. The outer pier has a quadrant of wall, with swept down coping, stopped to a square channelled pier on high base; this pier is repeated, but without the base, at the corner of the Lodge, and the whole contains a stone-paved courtyard.
