12/06/50 GV II Terrace house. Completed 1791 with C19 alterations. By John Palmer, built by William Reeves.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, painted to ground floor, rubble with traces of old lime wash to basement, rubble to rear, double pile parapeted mansard roof, Welsh slate to front, double Romans to rear, with coped party wall to left with single large ashlar stack with some early clay pots. Staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and cellar, two-window front. First floor has two plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals, second floor has two six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, to rear with single opening light, ground floor has to left one plate glass horned sash in plain reveal with stone sill, to right six-panel door with reeded, fielded and single glazed panel in timber doorcase with moulded architrave, panelled pilasters with console brackets, supporting moulded cornice, pennant paved crossover flush with pavement has cast iron footscraper. Basement has six/six sash in plain reveal with stone sill, C19 half-glazed door and single-light window in ashlar infilling under crossover, no area steps. Single and double dormers with two/two and plate glass sashes now altered and linked. Timber bressumer and stone band course over ground floor, weathered sill band to first floor, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead and largely lead downpipe to left. Rear elevation has plate glass horned sashes to lower floors, six/six sashes to second floor and double dormer, lead hopper and largely lead downpipe.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with cast urn tops on limestone bases. Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom. Marlborough Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square Underlease to William Reeves 4 March 1791 for 96 years from 24 June 1790.
