The North Somerset Historic Environment Record is a comprehensive source of information on sites of archaeological and historic interest within the Unitary Authority area. The HER contains details of archaeological sites, find spots, historic buildings, and significant landscape features from the Palaeolithic to modern day. Please note that if you are using the North Somerset HER information for commercial purposes (e.g. for a desk-based assessment or other development-related study) you will need to submit a request via our website and there will be a charge for this service. Our database is constantly evolving in response to new finds and research. If you spot anything inaccurate or have further information about any of the sites mentioned, please email and let us know.

Records of archaeological sites (Quaternary – Cold War), LBs, SAMs, Listed Gardens; air photographs; planning-related archaeology reports. We offer two services when requesting information from the HER: priority search (five working day turnaround) £222 including VAT at the current rate standard search (20 working day turnaround) £156 including VAT at the current rate. HER data is supplied in digital format with a licence to reuse, and customers will need to sign and return this once the information has been requested. GIS shapefiles will be provided with all search requests as standard. Let us know the type of shapefile you require on the request form (ESRI/MapInfo). Requests for searches should be made via the North Somerset Council website.
